NIV Kid's Visual Study Bible

Book review of the NIV Kids Visual Study Bible by Zonderkidz

The NIV Kids' Visual Study Bible, for ages 8-12, brings the Bible to life in four-color illustrated splendor. This study Bible includes a spectacular full-color interior featuring over 700 illustrations, photos, infographics, and maps on every page that visually represent key Bible information. Each page also features important facts located near the relevant verse. Intriguing facts; colorful, engaging maps; photographs; and illustrations make this a Bible they'll want to explore.
Features:
  • Over 700 four-color photographs, illustrations, infographics, and maps throughout
  • Full-color design
  • Book introductions, including important facts and an image to orient the reader
  • One-column format with side bar study notes for ease of reading
  • Presentation page
  • The complete text of the New International Version (NIV) translation of the Bible

The NIV Kid's Visual Study Bible is quite thick and heavy, even though the pages are very thin. This is definitely an for an older child, maybe a middle schooler both because of the very size of it, the small print and the general layout. I did expect there to be more pictures included. You have to be a fan of yellow because there are yellow sidebars on every page for the study information.

There are a few study ideas I liked, a graph comparing promises and a compare and contrast type chart for another topic, but a large amount of them are quite bland. I do like a lot of the information in the sidebars, especially explaining things like how comparing a woman's hair to goats (Song of Songs) is actually a complement. Who knew? I just don't know about calling this a 'visual' study Bible.

The two biggest drawbacks in my mind are the glaringly yellow sidebars on every page and the fact that the pages are so thin you can read the words right through from the other side. Unfortunately this Bible is not on my list of favourite resources for those reasons. If those were fixed in a future release then yes, this would be a handy resource for any kid wanting to dig deeper into the scriptures.

I received this book from Zondervan, however my opinion is my own.
